Kukama handwoven basketry · Loreto, Peru

This bowl comes from the hands of women artisans of the Kukama Indigenous people, in the district of Nauta, province and region of Loreto, in the Peruvian Amazon.

It is woven in a spiral from the fiber of the chambira palm, one of the most valued natural fibers of the rainforest, and decorated with large “ojo de vaca” (cow’s eye) seeds along its wavy rim. A touch of green around the edge completes its calm, natural design.

A piece that brings warmth and the beauty of the Amazon into any space: as a centerpiece, for fruit or bread, or simply as a decorative object.

By choosing this bowl, you support the work of Indigenous women artisans and their community, and help keep an ancestral craft of the Peruvian Amazon alive.
